The Assignment
Create a photograph with a commanding subject presence, set against an ethereal and fantastical background.
The Execution
"The model was photographed on location at Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant NJ , in front of the shark tank, with a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III using a 24-70mm lens, Two large Photek octabank softboxes were used for lighting, which allowed for the soft yet sculptural light. Multiple exposures of the tank behind her were then taken to allow for a cohesive image."
Post Production
“The post production was handled by our digital artist. The process involved combining multiple photographs and exposures of the shark tank to achieve the desired number of fish and complexity of environment. This method also allowed us to blend different exposures and tones of the tank, further creating an appropriate background for our subject.”
The Output
“The choice of paper is key for keeping with the natural, soft and sometimes ethereal feel of my images. Most gloss or satin papers contain optical brighteners and other enhancements that detract from the natural quality and feel of a true rag paper. To keep with that natural feel of my images, I use Aurora Art Natural paper. Since it is made with 100% rag cotton, and contains no additives, the colors and tones look very true, and the paper itself feels great. I use it for everything from fine art prints, to portfolio pages, to promotional materials. It worked particularly well with this image.”
