Beautiful texture

I use this paper for prints of my digital artwork that I sell. The texture is so stunning and brings my work to life. I use it with my Canon Pixma Pro-200, I use the suggested settings and profile. I couldn’t be happier with the quality.

I wanted to print on a large format 16x24 inches and I found that Red River could deliver large paper sheets of similar quality as the Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper 17x22". I purchased 25 (17x25") sheets of Palo Duro Etching 315 inkjet paper from Red River and tried on my Epson 3880. When I took out from the box the first paper sheet I was impressed how flat the paper is: no curling or curvatures near the edges. Paper itself does not like to bend or curve. Paper is also 21 mills thick which may help. Paper loaded very nicely on the first trial on the back tray of the printer. Choose the Epson velvet fine art paper setting and print. The print was superb; a beautiful matte finish with some delicate texture. Likely, because of paper flatness, no ink marks or smudges were found near the edges of the print. Ink marks are likely due to slight curvatures of the paper near the edges. I put the print on my painter tripod and it lays flat as a thin wood panel. Paper flatness and texture is what impressed me the most. I will definitely be a new Red River customer.

My Favorite Paper for Art Prints
Amanda Harms
After experimenting with various papers to make my Giclee prints from my home studio, I was thrilled to find this product. The paper takes ink from my EPSON Pixma-Pro 10 really well, and the texture allows my watercolor and digital prints to keep that element of traditional media that is normally lost with reproduction. The paper is a nice warm white, but doesn't affect my colors. Its weight lends a high-quality look and feel to my prints, and the texture is just right--not too much and yet, still enhances the look of the art. I just love it. I use this paper for all my art prints and, when compared to similar products elsewhere, Red River is more affordable, too--and by a long shot, from what I found. *I use "matte photo" paper setting and use the default color profile for my programs; this combination works well for me. After ruining more sheets than I care to remember, I learned the paper setting makes all the difference.

Not what I was hoping for.

I'm using an Epson P800 and purchased a roll after a friend showed me their prints using the same paper (or so they thought). I think they were maybe using another type of Palo Duro paper because this has more texture. The ink does not quite cover evenly and too much of the texture shows through. I thought it was something I was doing wrong but I did test prints on Aurora Art Natural and White papers and they come out perfect. I wanted to love this paper because it has a nice feel to it but I just don't, especially so for how much more it costs.

A Real Surprise,

I was dubious about the quality of this paper, but it turned out to be exceptional. The tones in my color prints are remarkable and I was sufficiently impressed with the paper that I just bought more. A great addition to digital printing.

Palo Duro Etching is my favorite art reproduction paper
Micah Shafer
I reproduce my watercolor originals with prints on this paper and i can tell you this has been my final paper choice. I have used a couple other papers and they do not have that special feeling like Red River gives you. Palo Duro prints look more crisp and have the nice texture you can feel and see. I tried the Aurora art naturals icc profile with this paper and it works perfectly. There is no icc profile for precision color inkset for palo duro, so use aurora art naturals icc or create your own.

The texture of this beautiful paper is very similar to watercolor paper. It is heavy weight, has a lovely feel to it, and my prints come out crisp and colorful.

Fallen In Love Again

I bought Palo Duro Etching a year ago with the intent of experimenting, and it has languished on a pile of my regularly used printing paper boxes unused. Today, for the first time, I had a perfect specimen to try. It was a digital wet plate collodian simulation requested by a gallery for an upcoming show this March. As a collodian it was important for me to use a toothy fine art paper so that the period atmosphere I was going for was preserved. I reasoned if the Palo Duro Etching paper didn't work I'll move on to other matte or fine art papers that might meet the challenge. Using Red River's excellent ICC profile for Palo Duro Etching it looked right as soon as I migrated the image from my computer to my print screen. I thought, "it can't be this easy, so let's see what happens when I print." The Result: I am in love with a new paper. The grays and blacks are magnificent and everything about the collodian effect is fully in tact. It almost has an "alternative chemical darkroom" feel to it. Today, with new motivation, my sole purpose for the next weeks will be to shoot subjects specifically used with this magnificent cold press art paper. Bravo!
