Your Summer Photo Tips

Now that it is officially summer (as the temperatures here in Texas remind us daily), you should be out and about on vacations and photo adventures. When you get ready to share and display your new work, keep these helpful tips about print care in mind.

Humidity & Temperature

Always store prints in a climate-controlled environment. 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 50% relative humidity are the benchmarks you should look to when storing prints. Moving air is a big factor in print fade, and too much or little humidity damages the paper.

Sunlight

Do not expose prints to direct sunlight. Heat and UV radiation will greatly accelerate fade and paper damage.

Framing & Hanging

Use UV filtered glazing (glass or arcylic) in your frame. Look for material that will filter 97% or more of the UV spectrum. Ultraviolet light includes energy from 10-400 nanometers. This frequency of light does the most damage to photos and artwork.

Storage

Try to keep prints in an acid free storage box or print sleeve / bag.

If you are going to store prints in plastic bags or sleeves, look for plastic material that is made from biaxially oriented polypropylene. Avoid using any materials that contain polyethylene or plasticizers which can cause rapid yellowing of your paper.

Hasselblad Master Day at House of Victor

Red River Paper recently attended a Hasselblad demonstration hosted by the House of Victor in Dallas. On display were a number of images by the legendary commercial photographer Moses Olmos. His images, shot with the new Hasselblad H5D, were printed on Red River Paper's 75lb. Arctic Polar Luster.

Working with the H5D camera and Broncolor lights was a great experience. We also learned how one can rent Hasselblad equipment; that is perfect if you have a special event or just want to try out the technology. For more information on rental locations and resources, click here.
