Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag 315 Details & Information

Description
Description

From landscapes to fine art portraits, Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag is the ideal Museum-Grade paper to display your images with just the right amount of sheen.

Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag 315 gives you the classic look of a darkroom print with the performance of modern inkjet technology. This OBA-free archival paper paper is made from 100% cotton fiber and has a lightly textured, semigloss surface. Palo Duro ranks among the finest quality photo papers you can use today. It meets and exceeds the quality of any platine type photo paper on the market. When you are looking for a true museum-quality medium for your work, choose Palo Duro Softgloss Rag.

Deep Blacks

The secret to deep blacks is a barrier coat between the paper and inkjet receiving layer. Ink stays locked into the soft gloss layer and cannot sink into the paper base. The results are luxurious deep blacks. We think that Ansel Adams would be stunned by what Palo Duro Softgloss Rag can accomplish.

A Big Surprise!
I was prepared to be disappointed with this paper. I've never been a big fan of satin or semi-gloss papers, but am always willing to try something new. So I ordered this paper. Wow, was I surprised! I do a lot of printing, mostly black and white, but my color work is increasing. This paper works very well for both, but it really shines with black and white. I used up my initial supply really fast, so now I'm ordering some more. I won't be without this paper again. I'll also give a big Thumbs Up to Red River's customer service/tech support. I did have a slight issue with this paper at first, but the problem was resolved 100% to my satisfaction.

Perfect: PALO DURO SOFTGLOSS RAG 315

Cheryl M Stewart, Aug 14, 2026

CEO Client wanted photos from cell phone to be blown up and framed depicting their company's origin locations for his office. They looked horrible. I was able to create artist pen and ink renderings which could not have printed any better than they did on the Palo Duro Softgloss Rag paper. I ordered it on a tight deadline and was able to get in plenty of time to meet the deadline.

PaloDuro

randall hale, Aug 10, 2026

I spent my first summer printing with Palo Duro, which I believe was the now discontinued Fiber version. The following summer (2026) I ordered a suppy of the Rag version, mistakingly thinking the paper I'd used in 2025 was back by popular demand. Big mistake. This alternate Palo Duro variety was equally superb in every respect BUT for its pronounced sandpaper-like texture. I will not use this paper again; it does NOT emulate the feel and characteristics of genuine darkroom papers of earlier times. And towards that end Red River's Big Bend Baryta, I think, is perhaps the better choice and the only paper I've used so far that takes me back. It's likely the only paper that I will use in the future and, God-willing, it will not be discontinued.

100% Cotton Luster Paper!

LINDA DEVENOW, Aug 10, 2026

I do recommend Red River paper to my fellow photographers and any one else who asks. I especially appreciate that Red River has US customer support that answers the phone and email promptly. Via the paper, I am a luster paper shooter and am glad you offer Luster paper that is 100% cotton. I have suggested a couple times to Red River that you offer the Palo Duro Softgloss or another Red River luster paper for 5x7 slotted cards.
