Just Starting Out
I'm a colored pencil artist and have just started putting my pieces to print. I called Red River up, and they were so helpful in helping me choose the right paper. I did do test runs on several different papers, but liked Aurora White the best for a few reasons. First off, it's a nice bright white, perfect for helping me achieve really clean colors. Secondly, I love the slight texture, it's not too bumpy, like a watercolor paper, but not too smooth that it looks like a photocopy. The texture is actually similar to what I use to create the original artwork. Thirdly, when I hand sign my prints in pencil, it's near impossible to erase without damaging or removing the top layer of the paper, which is great. The downside to this paper is merely the characteristic of a cotton paper - even though most are perfect, there's the odd sheet that's flawed, a spec of something in it, but depending on what I'm printing, my ink might camouflage it. The fact that I can print on both sides is a huge bonus. I do wish the paper was slightly heavier, but that's okay. The only other downfall is that shipping to Canada is a bit pricey. But I'm still coming back for more, its worth it for me.
