How much does this paper look like darkroom paper?

Palo Duro Baryta has been described as "as close as you can get to Oriental New Seagull G", which was a favorite of Ansel Adams. It is not the exact paper to be sure. However, it will be your go-to paper for a true darkroom fiber look.

What is Baryta?

Palo Duro Baryta Fiber's whiteness comes from a special barium sulfate variant called blanc-fixe, which means permanent white. This material is in the coating. It is inert and lends stability to the paper's whiteness over time. The coating and base materials are free of acid, lignin, and fluorescent brightening agents. Palo Duro Baryta Fiber gives you all you need for true exhibition quality photographic prints.

Important Backstory for this Paper

From 2012 until 2016 Red River Paper sold a product called San Gabriel SemiGloss Baryta. It was quite popular with photographic enthusiasts and those looking for a true darkroom look. The paper was discontinued due to a consistent issue with the base stock. Red River Paper maintains the highest standards so we decided to discontinue San Gabriel 1.0. It was replaced by San Gabriel 2.0 in 2016 and we continue to offer that paper.

Fast forward to today and, after extensive testing and work with our paper mill, we have decided to bring back the old San Gabriel which we have named Palo Duro Baryta Fiber. To summarize, the old San Gabriel, now new and improved, is back as Palo Duro Baryta. If you enjoyed the old San Gabriel, this paper is for you!
