Reviews for Palo Duro Etching 315

Not what I was hoping for.
Verified Buyer
I'm using an Epson P800 and purchased a roll after a friend showed me their prints using the same paper (or so they thought). I think they were maybe using another type of Palo Duro paper because this has more texture. The ink does not quite cover evenly and too much of the texture shows through. I thought it was something I was doing wrong but I did test prints on Aurora Art Natural and White papers and they come out perfect. I wanted to love this paper because it has a nice feel to it but I just don't, especially so for how much more it costs.

A Real Surprise,
michela caudill
I was dubious about the quality of this paper, but it turned out to be exceptional. The tones in my color prints are remarkable and I was sufficiently impressed with the paper that I just bought more. A great addition to digital printing.

Palo Duro Etching is my favorite art reproduction paper
Micah Shafer
I reproduce my watercolor originals with prints on this paper and i can tell you this has been my final paper choice. I have used a couple other papers and they do not have that special feeling like Red River gives you. Palo Duro prints look more crisp and have the nice texture you can feel and see. I tried the Aurora art naturals icc profile with this paper and it works perfectly. There is no icc profile for precision color inkset for palo duro, so use aurora art naturals icc or create your own.

Excellent paper!

The texture of this beautiful paper is very similar to watercolor paper. It is heavy weight, has a lovely feel to it, and my prints come out crisp and colorful.

Excellent Choice for a careful and discerning artist
As others have opined, the Palo Duro Etching is an excellent paper. However, make no mistake: The final print on this wonderful paper is completely dependent upon one who works carefully and takes the time to edit a given file, make a test print or two, and modify results to taste. Some would have you believe that this paper will make gold of copper, i.e., simply loading the paper and pressing the print button will guarantee a praise-worthy result. An excellent print demands an appropriate ICC profile and creative efforts that are rewarded with a print that reflects the artist's intentions. Careful work and meticulous attention to colors and details are reproduced well on Palo Duro Etching paper and the prints rendered are capable of surpassing one's expectations. I recommend this paper without reservations.

Excellent fine art paper
This paper is simply outstanding for fine art black and white prints. The paper itself has a wonderful texture that sets it apart form the RC coated photo papers. The paper has a slight warm glow that looks perfect with a double matting. I'm using the RR ICC profile and media configuration file for the PRO 1000. The set up has been spot on perfect. Highly recommended.

Finally a Matte Paper I love!
Chris Cole
I've experimented with matte papers here and there over the years but I was never happy with the results. I did mostly realistic art and matte paper fuzzed the sharpness of the details and sucked the life out of the vibrant colours. When I started doing abstracts as well I thought I'd give matte papers another try. A sample pack of Palo Duro Etching won me over! The colours were perfect, the paper beautiful and heavy and perfect fine art quality. Even with the ridiculous Canadian/US exchange rate, this paper is less expensive than the big name brands that I don't even like as well. It's a fantastic paper!

Palo Duro Etching is the best for the $$$

I've been a pro level photographer for years but just recently started printing my own work on a Canon Pro 100. I like a matte surface paper with a slight texture and have tried samples from Hahnemuhle and others. I thought I had found my fave paper in the Hahnemuhle German Etching and then I ordered the PD Etching from Red River. This paper renders detail & luminance I have ever seen before in a Matte paper. The slight texture adds a rich painterly look to the print that I love. Although it reproduces color extremely well, I find that its best attribute is its rendering of a really good B&W photo, producing a warm but sharp image, capturing all the detail of the original photo that just glows !! With a price much lower than other Fine Art paper brands, you really need to try this paper. It will be my paper going forward for all my Presentation Prints.
